Swedish-based FirstVet has received €18.5 million ($20.5 million USD) in second round funding from Creandum and OMERS Ventures.

FirstVet plans to use the funding to expand it’s telehealth vet service into Germany, France and the US.

Veterinary telehealth is the use of technology to remotely deliver health and medical treatment to pets. Typically, the initial contact involves the health professional viewing the animal via a video feed.  If the situation warrants, an in-person appointment is then arranged.

FirstVet currently operates in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and the UK.  Fuzzy Pet Health is the current telehealth leader in the US, though it currently only operates in the NYC and San Francisco areas.
